Ekadashi (from Sanskrit means "eleven") is the eleventh lunar day following each New Moon and Full Moon.
Law of Sensitive Dependence on Initial Conditions from the CHAOS THEORY, refers to the fact that a slight variation over a course of time can have the effect of producing a profound change. - The Butterfly Effect.
The essence of Ekadashi is a fast and a spiritual practice. According to the ancient Vedic scriptures, on this day the unfavorable location of the planets affects people quite strongly, making us vulnerable to earthly sinful energies which are concentrated in food, especially grains and legumes. That's why by avoiding food intake on this day we protect ourselves from negative energy, reduce karmic burden and take a step towards a happy fate.
It is believed that fasting during Ekadashi prevents many diseases, improves health and well-being and helps with mental problems. Fasting itself cleanses ourselves physically and spiritually, harmonizing internal energy and fostering holistic health. From a medical standpoint, starvation helps to cleanse, to get rid of toxins and to tone the body - giving rest and "reboot" to the digestive tract.
